Texture sharpening

In version 1.0 we introduced texture sharpening, a feature designed to enhance the clarity of textures specifically. Unlike traditional sharpening, which affects the entire image, texture sharpening focuses only on texture detail, giving surfaces a crisper and more defined look.

You can also control them directly via CVars for more flexible or automated workflows.

Both sharpening and texture sharpening settings are available in the Environment Editor.

Environment Editor

  1. Open the Environment Editor via Tools → Environment Editor.
  2. Create a new environment preset or select an existing one.
  3. In the Constants section, navigate to Image Settings.
  4. Locate the sliders for Sharpening and Texture Sharpening.
  5. Adjust the values to your preference.

Both sharpening methods will be saved within the environment preset and automatically applied whenever that preset is loaded.

Using CVar

If you prefer to fine‑tune sharpening without using the Environment Editor, you can do so directly through the console:

  • Controls overall image sharpening.
  • Replace X with your desired value.
  • Controls sharpening applied specifically to textures.
  • Accepts float values for greater precision (e.g., 0.5, 1.25).

Both commands take effect immediately and can also be integrated into Flowgraph or configuration files for automated workflows.

Important

Dependency: Texture sharpening only works when Sharpening is enabled (i.e., when the sharpening value is greater than 1).

Recommended Setup: Set Sharpening to 1 as a baseline, then fine‑tune Texture Sharpening to your preference.

Interaction: Increasing the sharpening value will also amplify the effect of texture sharpening.
